While we all have been busy with everyday issues and
business, many members have been preparing for the
APWU National Convention, Aug 18-23, 2008.
Since we are the Host Local for this Convention, some
members began planning shortly after the closing of the
2006 Convention. To support their efforts, we have
been upgrading our Local website in preparation for all
the visitors and busy times they will bring with them this
August. As you can see here, we now have a special
new Convention 2008 page with lots of links for the
thousands of members who want information about
their Las Vegas convention visit. Viva Las Vegas!
We can all be proud when Postal Workers from around
the nation type in our web address to seek information
about their convention city events. The Convention
2008 page will expand as these visitors keep asking
new questions -- so keep an eye on these pages during
upcoming weeks and months.
Do also take note that our entire website has been
reconstructed to better serve Local members. You will
now be able to obtain information directly from this site
instead of calling the Hall for information by phone.
Updated craft seniority lists, steward lists, Local and
National constitutions, Local Memorandums, and much,
much more. We also encourage your suggestions for
additional information you would like to see posted at
our new "Member Place."
- After all, this website belongs to you...
I would like to thank the membership for allowing me to
attend the recent APWU Nevada State Convention. This had
to be one of the most productive training seminars the
State Organization has put on to date. As usual, our
business agents sent us back home with lots of valuable
information for the membership.
Thanks to the Reno Local and State President Paul Maille
for a job well done -- and special thanks to Assistant Clerk
Craft Director Pat Williams, National Business Agents
Shirley Taylor, Lenny Trujillo, James Scoggins and
Woodrow Williams for their excellent training.
I have arranged for Assistant Director MVS Craft Michael
Foster and National Business Agent Bruce Bailey to meet
with you on June 7, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. They will be
giving us updates on current issues in the MVS craft as well
as listening to your concerns. Another issue we will be
watching closely is the arbitration concerning contracting
out at Meadow Mesa Station. This is scheduled for June
12, 2008.
